Льыоравэтльан - Coordinating Council for Development of Language and Ethnocultural Potential of Karelian People

The round table “Use of Karelian Language and Ethnocultural Potential in Development of Essoila Rural Settlement” took place in the village of Essoila of Pryazha national metropolitan region on November 15. The participants presented the two-year work experience of the Karelian Language Center “Livvinkeskus” in the field of familiarization of children and adults with studying of Karelian language, introduction of innovative forms of teaching of native language and culture.
Head of Pryazha national metropolitan region Toivo Savolainen, head of Essoila rural settlement Andrey Orekhanov, heads and experts of establishments of culture and education, members of the Karelian regional public organization “Essoila Karelians”, representatives of the Ministry of the Republic of Karelia on National Politics and Relations with Religious Associations and mass-media took part in discussion of issues on development of language and ethnocultural competence of the rural dwellers. Participants of the round table made special mention of positive work experience of the center. Employees of the center managed to involve children and their parents in the educational, research and creative activities, to impart studying of the Karelian language to families. The merit of formation of the image of Karelian language in Essoila rural settlement in many respects belongs to the Fine Art Studio “Domik Sveta” (“House of Ligh”) and its teacher Oleg Obnosov as one of the active partners of the Center “Livvinkeskus”. Using new information technologies students create animated stories where heroes speak Karelian language.

The work experience of the Karelian Language Center “Livvinkeskus” will be generalized and presented in other settlements of Pryazha region. Participants of the round table have decided to establish a Coordination Council, a collegiate body under administration of Essoila rural settlement for development of language and ethnocultural potential of Karelian people as a resource of social and economic development of the territory. They plan to consider questions of perspective development of Syamozero area and making of attractive ethnocultural image of the settlement.
The Ministry of the Republic of Karelia on National Politics and Relations with Religious Associations together with its social partners plans to continue the practice of carrying out of round tables “Use of Language and Ethnocultural Potential in Development of Settlements”. In the near future round tables will be held in Vedlozero, Kroshnozero, Konchezero, and Petrovsky rural settlements.
