Small-Numbered Indigenous Peoples’ Original Habitat Protection Bill of Krasnoyarsk Krai Under Development

Small-Numbered Indigenous Peoples’ Original Habitat and Traditional Living Protection Bill is under development in Krasnoyarsk Krai. It is aiming to guarantee rights of small-numbered indigenous peoples of the North; define basic notions, goals, directions, and foundations of small-numbered indigenous peoples’ original habitat and traditional living; define powers of public authorities in the field; control protection of original habitat and traditional living of both people engaged in deer-raising, hunting, fishing and their associations.
Mechanisms of protection of small-numbered indigenous peoples’ original habitat including its protection from industrial encroachment are clearly described in the bill. People leading traditional living will acquire all necessary rights and social support of public authorities according to the bill. At present there are no bills to regulate protection of small-numbered indigenous peoples’ original habitat and traditional living neither on federal nor on regional levels.
Small-Numbered Indigenous Peoples’ Original Habitat and Traditional Living Protection Bill of Krasnoyarsk Krai may come into force this year.
