Conference “Teletskoye Natural Territory: Partnership for Sustainable Development Purposes” in Altai Republic

Interns of Information Center “Birlik” took part in a two-day conference “Teletskoye Natural Territory: Partnership for Sustainable Development Purposes” organized under the aegis of UNDP/GEF project, El Kurultai - Legislative Assembly of Altai Republic, Natural Resources Ministry of Altai Republic, Altaisky and Katunsky State Reserves, nonprofit organizations “Orion” and “Teletskoye Lake Council”, Gorno-Altaisk State University.
More than 50 people including representatives of legislative and executive authorities and municipalities; heads and officers of Altai republic’s ministries, state nature reserves and parks; representatives of grass-roots organizations, business structures, indigenous communities and organizations of Turochak and Ulagan Districts gathered at the conference.
The aims of the conference were joining of efforts of grass-roots, state, and business structures to provide conditions for sustainable development of Teletskoye natural territory; generation of cooperation in solving nature conservation and socio-economic problems, support of solid cooperation and interaction.

A. Bondarev, manager of UNDP/GEF project “Preservation of Biodiversity in Russian Altaian and Sayan Mountains”, and V. Manyshev, deputy minister of natural resources of Altai Republic, addressed the conferees at the beginning of the conference. Then they heard the reports on the matter. I. Solodukha, director of “Information Center of Indigenous Peoples of the Altai Republic “Birlik”, made a report “Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Russian Legislation”.
I would like to note efficiency of round tables “Role of Biosphere Reserves in Sustainable Development of Territories”, “Tourism: Nature Conservation Problems and Socio-Economic Development of Teletskoye Natural Territory”, “Preservation of Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Territory and Traditional Unexhaustive Nature Management of Indigenous Population of Gorny Altai”. Our group of interns worked at the round table “Preservation of Historical and cultural Heritage of the Territory and Traditional Unexhaustive Nature Management of Indigenous Population of Gorny Altai” together with representatives and chairmen of indigenous territory communities of Turochak and Ulagan Districts, and E. Shichkova, Altaisky State Reserve officer. We determined present forms of nature management on the territory and suggested possible solutions to the problems.
