The IX Congress of the Youth Association of Finno-Ugric Peoples took place on August 14-15 in Petrozavodsk.
The Youth Association of Finno-Ugric Peoples (MAFUN/YAFUP) is a youth association of public organizations of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic (Ural) peoples and its primary intent is preservation and development of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic (Ural) cultures and languages.
34 delegates and 19 observers from the Komi , Mordovia, Karelian, Mariy El and Udmurt Republics; Yamal-Nenets and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Areas, Perm Krai, Tver Oblast, Moscow and St. Petersburg took part in the work of the congress. The forum discussed the issues of uniform information space formation, support of young families, development of languages and cultures of the Finno-Ugric peoples, improvement of educational system, preservation of identity of the Finno-Ugric peoples, development of youth ethnocultural tourism.
The congress delegates also discussed the Charter of the organization and approved the redrafted one. Aleksey Rassykhaev, chairman of MAFUN/YAFUP, made the directors’ report.
Elena Leontyeva, member of the Karelian regional public organization “Youth Information and Legal Center of Indigenous Peoples “Nevond”, made a report “Legal Education’s Impact on the National Morale of Finno-Ugric Youth” and she displayed the information on the work of the Center.
The congress participants shared experience and exchanged their opinions concerning preservation of language, traditional culture and folk arts and use of ethnocultural potential for socio-economic development of the territories.
