Interregional seminar ''Legislating Process in Russia and Rights of Indigenous Peoples on Land and Natural Resources''

On 11-14 March 2007 in the neighborhood of Kemerovo in Sosnovy Bor Resort with technical assistance of LIENIP, financial support of the Netherlands Center for Indigenous Peoples (NCIV) and the United Nations Development Program (Russia) there will be held an interregional seminar Legislating Process in Russia and Rights of Indigenous Peoples on Land and Natural Resources.

The seminar will be conducted by well-known lawyers-ecologists Olga Yakovleva, a member of Moscow Regional Board of Attorneys, the Honorable Barrister of Russia, Elvira Grishchenko chief executive of the Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization Right on Life (Moscow), Ivan Iutin post graduate student of the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Science.
During the seminar there will be analyzed the present Russian legislation and norms of international legislation guaranteeing the rights of indigenous peoples on their traditional lifestyle and original habitat protection. Much attention will be paid to tendencies of changes in legislation on natural resources in the aspect of implementation of the rights of RF citizens and indigenous peoples on land, natural resources and the basis of life. The lawyers will tell about the latest news from the State Duma of the Russian Federation, new Forest and Water Codes of RF, and will dwell on the problem of differentiation of powers of the Russian Federation and the subjects of the RF on the issues of land-use, environment protection and ecological control.
Indigenous representatives of Kemerovskaya Oblast, Krasnoyarsky Kray, Altaisky Kray, Kamchatsky Kray, Khakasya, Altai and Karelia Republics will take part in the seminar. All the participants of the seminar will receive legal materials and necessary consultations on the relevant issues they are interested in.
